6x6” encaustic on 140 gsm archival rag paper, framed in a simple black shadowbox with a glass front to protect the paper and still let it be seen. This can be hung on a wall like a picture frame, or set on a ledge or shelf.

‘alla prima’ is a quick and impressionistic style of painting to capture light and landscape. This painting was based on a photograph of Porteau Cove, a campground built on a narrow strip of land between the Sea-to-Sky Highway and the edge of Brohm Lake, north of Vancouver, Canada. The mountains are startling, stark and vivid over the lake and Squamish River, and the campsites are right on the water. A campfire at sunset here is one of my favorite moments in the world.
