52”x30”
Acrylic stain on unprimed canvas.
The process of pouring fluid acrylic paint onto raw canvas and letting it sink into the fabric, manipulating the flow of paint with a few tools, and working in many layers while keeping the overall composition clear is a challenge for these large-scale pieces. It gets me into a flow state akin to prayer or meditation where I am utterly focused on watching and interacting decision-by-decision.
This painting was completed in the wake of a deep tragedy and loss and is to me a kind of Psalm about mercy in the middle of such dark experiences.
